Module Five - Tools

Module Five - Tools

If we are to consider the selection and integration of technologies into teaching and learning we need to become more aware of the possibilities... this module will be the ONLY time in this course when we will focus on technologies.

Technologies in education have come a long way... we have more choices than ever before. We have computer-based technologies, digital cameras, display technologies and more. We have "software" in the form of DVDs and CD Roms, as apps, as online tools, and built into devices. We have computers in our phones, our tablets, in netbooks, laptops (note: not LABtops as some people sometimes say), desktops and in the cloud. We have digital cameras in phones, in visualizers, in stand-alone digital cameras, as digital video cameras, in tablets, in laptops, in desktops, in watches, and in many forms and with many features.  We have wireless, blue tooth, wifi, cellular, ethernet and other networks. We have... well, you get the picture.
This module we will explore what is "out there" and how it could be used in education. We will explore the powerful potential of these tools and some of the challenges. We will examine the tools we have, those we want, and those we can only imagine.

Assignment

Your job is to create a wiki page for the technology you have been assigned... on that page you are to create an overview of the technology including definition(s), explanation(s), example(s), and potential uses in education. Include links to places to learn more (annotated to help others know what they will learn/see or do at the links.)You can also include information about possible shortcomings, challenges, problems and the like. Include at least one "Imagine This" - a very concrete description of actual use of your technology in a classroom setting (the setting CAN be your setting, but does not have to be.)

Make a new wiki page named for your technology. Make your page interesting, engaging, accurate and a fair portrayal of your technology.  Be sure to include media such as images, audio, video and the like. All things you include should be appropriately cited. Please try to make sure your sources and information are not too old or out of date.

Format, design, content (including your description of use), appropriate credit and citations are all important here. (Don't forget your name on your page.)

Please be sure to read Part I parts 2,3,4,5,6 and 9 of our book for this week.

There is a place in Blackboard to submit your LIVE link to your technology page, there is a rubric there for you to know how I will be looking at your work... this should help inform your efforts and direction.

This assignment is due Sunday, November 18th by 6 PM CT.
